The majority of Filipinos dream of having their own business. I would even dare to say it's one of their ultimate dreams, along with having a family, owning a house or property, graduating from college, traveling abroad, and buying a car.

 

 

Delving into Various Business Ventures and Learning Lessons

 

Like most of you, I've also nurtured this dream for a long time. I have tried starting various business ventures, such as a flower shop, daycare center, retail store, online coaching, eBooks, real estate, drop shipping, and online store, that did not take off. From one idea to another, nothing seemed to click, leaving me questioning if entrepreneurship was truly my path.

 

Finding Success in Market Research and the Corporate World

 

On the other hand, I found success in my professional job as a market researcher in the corporate world. In my 27 years of working, I climbed the proverbial corporate ladder, and I have no regrets about that. The job provided financial stability and gave me the opportunity to travel the country and to destinations outside the Philippines. 

 

Thus, my passion for traveling began, which I shared with my husband and children.

 

 

 

Resigning From My Job and Struggling To Find What's Next For Me

 

While I have always loved to travel, the idea of entering the business of traveling and tourism never entered my mind. I always thought the industry was for "others," but for me, there's another business waiting.

 

In 2019, I resigned from a stable job. I didn't realize then that it would be my last corporate job. I attempted to get back to work but couldn't get a job for whatever reason.

 

Although I believed it was the perfect opportunity to try starting a business again, I didn't know I would struggle to find the right fit. I allowed both heart and mind to lead me, but nothing sustained my interest. 

 

My self-esteem began to take a dive as nothing seemed to work. The series of fits and starts caused me to lose confidence in my competence.

 

How It All Began: The Aha! Moment

 

One day in 2023, as the year-end drew closer, inspiration struck me. Not hard, but gently, almost like a faint whisper in my ear.

 

"Start a travel agency."

 

Maybe because this time, I was in a perfectly relaxed state of mind; that's why I heard it and opened my heart to it. 

 

At that very moment, I enrolled in a short course about establishing a travel agency and then registered a business name. And, thus, Travelique was born.

 

 

Developing the Essence of Travelique: Finding Meaning in My Travels

 

My journey to Travelique was more like an unplanned but surprisingly pleasant trip. My quest for the right fit for me became a winding path through various ventures, each teaching a valuable lesson but missing to ignite the spark within until Travelique came.

 

As I run the business, I can feel a sense of both passion and purpose that I didn't get from the previous ventures I tried. With each passing day, my understanding of the profound effect of traveling on me deepens. 

 

Through our travels, I found joy in exploring various corners of the world and embracing the myriad cultures that paint our globe with diversity and beauty. From seeing new landscapes to staring in awe at ancient churches and walking on streets where history happened, to gazing at the sunset at nine o'clock in the evening while on a river cruise, eating the local dishes, and simply watching the fashionistas of Italy walk by as they live their daily lives, all of these experiences stir my soul and make me appreciate the similarities and differences that exist between us. They remind me of the connectedness and diversity of our world.

 

For a brief period, maybe three days or two weeks, I could forget my problems at home and live a new life. I could see a new place through a new lens. Everything I see is a thing of wonder.

 

Whenever I return home from vacation, I am refreshed and feel that new things, people, cultures, and ideas have been added to my soul during the trip.
